Less than 3% of commercial real estate is owned and managed by women today.

According to research by BiggerPockets, women represent less than 3% of commercial real estate investors. This figure is surprising given that more women own and manage their own businesses today than ever before. CREW Network's Benchmark Study found that Women in Commercial Brokerage increased to 29%. These women need to take their experience, knowledge and insight and start building wealth by investing in the Asset Class they are experts in.

The commercial real estate industry has historically remained male-dominated. The lack of women in this field may partially be attributed to its long history as a "man's world," where only men were considered qualified for these roles. Additionally, many female professionals who do enter the field often find that they are paid less than their male counterparts despite having similar skills and experience levels. CREW Study "Women continue to earn less than men. In 2020, the fixed salary gap between genders is 10.2% and the commission and bonus gap is a staggering 55.9%." Women are making gains and we must continue to push for more.

Commercial real estate is an asset class that offers tremendous potential for growth, especially when you consider the current market conditions. However, most women are not investing in commercial real estate for one main reason: lack of knowledge about how it works and how they can get started investing. But this isn't true for Women In Commercial Real Estate. For Women in our profession, investing is squarely in our Circle of Competence

Women need to invest in commercial real estate (CRE). They need to know that there are opportunities available now more than ever before—especially as interest rates continue to rise and investments become increasingly scarce! In addition to seeking out CRE opportunities, women also need guidance on how best practices will help them succeed when investing in CRE properties or funds - both long term investments with long term benefits!

The concept is a simple one: if you know about something, and are interested in it, then that's probably the kind of thing you should be investing in. The logic here is that if you don't understand it well enough to know everything there is to know about it, then either 1) you'll have no idea what's really going on behind the scenes or 2) someone else will understand it better than you do. And if someone else understands something better than you do, they have an advantage over your investment decisions—and ultimately over your returns—that could end up costing money (or opportunity).

It's a $3.5 trillion dollar industry, and it's the largest one in the world. In fact, the U.S. commercial real estate market is the largest of its kind in the world...and yet only 1% of commercial real estate firms are owned by women (according to research from Womenable).

If women were to invest in commercial real estate at the same rate as men, we would create $1 trillion dollars of value for women in commercial real estate over the next 3 years. As women investors are becoming a growing force in commercial real estate, it’s important that we support and grow each other so that we can continue to make progress toward closing this gap.

This is an exciting time for women who want to invest in CRE. There is tremendous opportunity for us today, but we cannot do this alone. There are many pioneers and Women Trailblzers that have been buying and managing commercial property for decades. 2% of CRE owners to be exact, but those women want all women to get in the game.

The future of commercial real estate is female, and we need your help to get there. After decades of hard-won progress, women are still underrepresented in the CRE industry and face serious barriers to success. Women hold just 9 percent of senior roles in commercial real estate firms and only 5 percent of executive positions at top companies.

Conclusion

While we’re still in the early stages of gender equality we are making gains fast. With only 3% of Commercial Real Estate owned and managed by Women it is the next frontier for us to jump in and compete. We’ve seen how women are underrepresented in commercial real estate ownership and we know women can benefit from investing. As with any investment, there are risks and rewards associated with CRE.
