Development Strikes Again in East Austin!

Beck-Reit’s Previous Office Will Be Razed for Mixed-Use Development

Beck-Reit & Sons Construction performed a gut renovation at 2131 Theo between 2014-2016, an adaptive reuse project that turned the aging auto repair shop into a 5-unit creative office space with shared conference room, kitchen, and lobby. The finished project was managed by Beck-Reit Asset Management and leased by Beck-Reit Commercial Real Estate until 2020, when the developers came knocking with an offer we couldn’t refuse.

Now, local developer the Cumby Group will turn 2131 Theo and the surrounding lots into an 800 unit multi-family complex, including 80 units of affordable housing and a whopping 150,000 square feet of commercial space. The project will span nine acres and more than a full city block. Construction is already underway on The Emma, a 146-unit project at 3219 Manor Road. Two additional structures housing between 450 and 500 units, along with commercial space, are planned next door at 3115 Manor Road. Lastly, Cumby expects to build about 200 units at 3033 Manor Road.

It’s tough to see our old project getting prepped for demo, but the pace of Austin’s development makes it hardly a surprise - and our current housing crisis makes this project and its affordable housing units great news for our East Austin Community. Onward and upward!
